Muscat’s corniche, the fjords of Musandam and the misty Khareef hills around Salalah are a drive or a short flight away from the UAE. For Pakistanis, the right Oman visa depends on where you live.

If you live in the UAE, Saudi Arabia or another Gulf country, the Oman visa for Pakistani UAE residents is usually the GCC Resident Visa. You apply online, with no sponsor, on the Royal Oman Police (ROP) eVisa portal. If you live in Pakistan, you will usually need a sponsor in Oman. Voyfaro does not issue visas or apply for them. We checked the official pages in the Sources list on 5 October 2026. Rules change, so confirm there before you pay.

Oman visa for Pakistani UAE residents and Pakistan: quick answer

  • Do Pakistanis need a visa for Oman? Yes. Pakistan is not on either list on ROP’s visa-free entry page. It is also missing from the Foreign Ministry’s visa-exemption page (last updated 22 September 2026).
  • Living in the UAE or another GCC country? You can usually apply online for the GCC Resident Visa (code 29A), with no sponsor. Your profession must be on ROP’s approved list, and your residence must have at least 6 months left when you enter Oman.
  • Fee and stay: OMR 5.000. Single entry, 4 weeks (28 days), extendable by 1 week. Use it within 1 month.
  • Living in Pakistan? On the pages we checked, no unsponsored tourist visa was open to Pakistani passports. You need a sponsor in Oman, such as a relative living there or an approved company.
  • Is it open or not? Yes, through these routes, but it is not visa-free.
  • Where to apply: only on evisa.rop.gov.om. The portal says paying does not guarantee a visa, and the ROP officer at the port of entry decides whether you can enter.

All figures are from the condition pages under “Know your Visa Type” on the ROP eVisa portal, checked on 5 October 2026.

Route 1: the GCC Resident eVisa

Who qualifies

ROP describes the GCC Resident Visa as a tourism visa for foreign residents of GCC countries who “hold professions specified by the authority”. It does not need a sponsor in Oman. Its conditions page lists:

  • You must be a resident of a GCC country, with at least 6 months of residency left when you enter Oman.
  • Your profession must be on the list of approved professions.
  • Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months on entry.
  • You must be outside Oman when you apply, and must not hold another current Oman visa.

The approved-profession list is not published on the pages we checked. If you are unsure whether your job qualifies, call the eVisa call centre (+968 22848200) before you pay.

Family members and domestic workers can use the 29B companion visa. ROP says they must also be GCC residents with at least 6 months of residency left, must enter Oman with the eligible resident, and must upload a copy of that person’s visa.

Step-by-step on evisa.rop.gov.om

  1. Type evisa.rop.gov.om yourself. Do not click ads; look-alike sites may add their own fees.
  2. Check your visa type. Open “Know your Visa Type”, choose “Visit Unsponsored visas”, then “GCC Resident Visa” to see 29A and 29B.
  3. Register as a tourist user, then log in. ROP says you must register before you can apply.
  4. Choose the visa and enter your details exactly as in your passport.
  5. Upload a digital photo and a copy of your passport. ROP’s FAQ says each file must be no larger than 512 KB. As general guidance, keep your Emirates ID or iqama to hand, since the visa depends on your GCC residence.
  6. Pay online. The FAQ says your application and payment receipt go to your registered email, and the eVisa is emailed to you if approved.
  7. Apply early. The FAQ recommends applying at least 4 days before travel.
  8. Print your eVisa and carry it with your passport and residence card.

Stay, validity and extension

The 29A conditions page says the stay is 4 weeks (28 days), single entry, and the visa must be used within 1 month. You can make the first one-week extension yourself; later extensions need a visit to a Directorate General of Passports and Civil Status office. Overstaying costs OMR 10.000 per day.

Route 2: from Pakistan on a Pakistani passport

Why the unsponsored tourist visa usually does not apply

Oman’s unsponsored Tourist Visit Visa (code 26) is for nationals of specified countries. ROP’s visa-free entry page has two lists: List 1, and List 2 for nationals holding a valid US, Canadian, Australian, UK, Japanese or Schengen visa. Pakistan is on neither. India and Egypt, for example, are on List 2. Pakistan is not.

A sponsor in Oman applies for you on the eVisa system. The portal says sponsor registration is only for residents of Oman with a valid Civil Number, or for organisations with a Company Register Number.

  • Family Visit Visa (4B): for relatives of a foreigner living in Oman. Your relative supplies copies of their passport and residence card, proof of relationship and a letter taking responsibility for you. The stay is up to 3 months; the fee is OMR 20.000. ROP allows a one-month extension and says the extension fee is the same as the visa fee. It also lists “must not have been previously rejected for an Oman visa”.
  • Family Visit Visa (4A): for relatives or friends of an Omani citizen.
  • Sponsored Tourist Visa (6A or 6B): for a visitor sponsored by an approved sponsor in Oman, with a typed and stamped letter from the sponsor explaining the visit. 6A gives 10 days (OMR 5.000) and 6B gives 30 days (OMR 20.000). Both must be used within 3 months.

As general guidance, ask a hotel or licensed tour company in Oman directly whether it sponsors visas for Pakistani nationals before you book anything non-refundable.

Embassy of Oman in Islamabad and the Karachi consulate

Oman’s Foreign Ministry lists the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman at House No. 310, Aurangzeb Road, E-7, Islamabad (islamabad@fm.gov.om). The embassy page says visa applications for Oman should be made directly on the ROP eVisa website. The ministry also lists a Consulate General in Karachi (karachi@fm.gov.om) that names visa applications among its services. Contact them if you have an unusual case or a previous refusal.

Pakistanis with UK, US or Schengen visas

Oman has a 30-day tourist visa (26M) for people with a valid Schengen, US, UK, Canadian, Australian or Japanese visa. ROP says it is only for people on “the list of allowed nationalities”. Pakistan was not on ROP’s visa-free entry lists or the Foreign Ministry’s exemption groups when we checked, so do not assume your UK visa or European residence makes you eligible.

Without Gulf residence, Pakistanis in the UK or Europe will usually need the sponsored route.

Driving from the UAE to Oman

Border crossings

ROP’s FAQ says road travellers must apply for the visa online first, then enter Oman by any legal border. It adds that a paper application form at the UAE border is kept only for exceptional cases. So get your eVisa before you set off.

As general guidance, crossings used by travellers include Hatta to Al Wajajah (towards Muscat), the crossings near Al Ain and Buraimi, and the Ras Al Khaimah crossing into Musandam. Which crossings expatriates may use has changed over the years, so check with ROP’s call centre before you drive.

In the UAE on a tourist visa rather than residence? ROP’s FAQ says people without GCC residence travelling from Dubai need the Dubai/Oman joint visa, applied for through an Omani embassy or tourist travel agencies. ROP’s visa list says the Dubai/Oman Common Visa is only for “the list of eligible nationalities”. We could not confirm that Pakistan is on it, so ask the eVisa call centre first.

Car insurance and rental cars

As general guidance, a UAE car policy may not cover Oman automatically. Ask your insurer whether Oman is included, and get proof of cover in writing. If you rent, confirm with the rental company that the car may cross the border, and carry its permission letter.

Exit fees

Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs lists a departure-fee collection service at land and sea ports. It asks for the departure-fee receipt and your original passport, and you must be there in person. The page did not state the fee amount when we checked on 5 October 2026. As general guidance, keep a payment card ready at the border.

Documents checklist

  • Pakistani passport valid for at least 6 months on entry
  • GCC residence card with at least 6 months left on entry (Route 1)
  • Printed eVisa, matching your passport details
  • Hotel booking and return or onward ticket (general guidance: not on ROP’s 29A list, but useful if asked)
  • Travel insurance with medical cover (recommended)
  • Sponsor’s letter, passport and residence card copies, and proof of relationship (Route 2)
  • Car insurance covering Oman, and rental permission if driving

Where to go in Oman

Seasonal notes below are from Experience Oman, the official tourism site.

  • Muscat: the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Mutrah’s traditional souq and the seafront. Winter (November to early March) averages around 26°C; lowland summers (June to August) generally reach 35°C to 45°C.
  • Musandam: steep mountains above the sea, with boat tours, mountain treks and diving. Experience Oman says it can be reached by land, sea and air.
  • Jebel Akhdar: up to 15°C cooler than the lowlands, so a good summer escape.
  • Salalah: the Khareef season, from mid-June to September, brings mist and green hills.

Compare hotels in Muscat, Musandam and Salalah or compare flights to Muscat and Salalah.

Mobile data and travel insurance

Check your UAE or Saudi plan’s Oman roaming rates before you go. A travel eSIM gives you data for maps from the moment you cross. See Oman eSIM options or read eSIM vs roaming vs local SIM.

Pakistan’s embassy in Muscat warns that bringing prohibited medicines, especially without a doctor’s prescription, can lead to penalties. Make sure your travel insurance covers medical care in Oman.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Entering with less than 6 months left on your UAE or Saudi residence
  • Assuming UAE residence means visa-free entry to Oman
  • Choosing the wrong visa type instead of 29A or 29B
  • Applying from inside Oman, or while holding another current Oman visa
  • Paying a look-alike website or WhatsApp agent
  • Driving to the border without an approved eVisa
  • Overstaying, which costs OMR 10.000 a day
