Indian ordinary passport holders do need a visa for Türkiye (Turkey). If you hold a valid US, UK, Irish or Schengen visa or residence permit, you can usually get the Turkey e-Visa online, with no embassy visit. Istanbul, the Bosphorus and Cappadocia are then only a few clicks away.
This guide sets out the exact conditions as the official sources state them, what “valid” means for your supporting visa, and what to do if you do not qualify. We checked every source listed at the end on 7 October 2026. Voyfaro does not apply for visas, is not a visa agent and is not affiliated with any government.
Turkey e-Visa for Indians with a US visa: the short answer
- Visa needed: the Türkiye Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) says Indian ordinary, special and service passport holders need a visa. Diplomatic passports are visa-free for up to 90 days.
- The e-Visa route: if you hold a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, the USA, the UK or Ireland, you can get a single-entry e-Visa at evisa.gov.tr, provided you meet the other conditions. The MFA describes it as valid for one month.
- Stay: up to 30 days, one entry. When we checked, the e-Visa system showed a validity of 180 days from your arrival date for an ordinary Indian passport, with a total stay of no more than 30 days. The MFA page still says one month. This difference matters for your supporting visa and your passport (see below).
- Other conditions: tourism or business only, a passport that covers your stay, and proof of a return ticket, a hotel reservation and at least US$50 for each day of your stay.
- Not accepted: e-visas from other countries. A UAE or other Gulf residence permit on its own does not qualify either.
- No supporting visa? Apply for a sticker visa through the Turkish mission for where you live. In India that is the Embassy in New Delhi or the Consulates General in Mumbai and Hyderabad, through their visa application centre.
| Conditional e-Visa | Sticker visa (embassy route) | |
|---|---|---|
| Who | Holders of a valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or residence permit | Everyone else, and anyone travelling for work or study |
| Where | evisa.gov.tr only | Visa pre-application, then the mission’s visa application centre |
| Stay | Up to 30 days, single entry | As granted on the visa |
| Purpose | Tourism or business only | Any purpose, including work and study |
Who this applies to
This guide is for Indian citizens travelling on an ordinary passport for a holiday or a business trip. It covers Indians living in India and Indians living abroad, including in the UAE and the UK.
It does not cover work, study or long stays. The MFA says the e-Visa is only for tourism or commerce. Visas for other purposes are issued by Turkish embassies and consulates. Diplomatic passport holders are visa-free for up to 90 days, so this guide is not for them.
The exact e-Visa conditions for Indian passport holders
We ran the eligibility check on evisa.gov.tr for an Indian ordinary passport on 7 October 2026. The site said an Indian ordinary passport holder could apply for an e-Visa, and the system listed four conditions. You must be able to confirm that:
- Your passport covers the period you will stay in Türkiye.
- You are travelling for tourism or business.
- You hold a valid supporting document: a valid visa or valid residence permit from one of the Schengen countries, the USA, the UK or Ireland. The system adds that e-visas are not accepted as supporting documents.
- You can prove a return ticket, a hotel reservation and at least US$50 for each day of your stay.
The site warns that if you do not meet these criteria, your e-Visa is invalid even after it has been issued. The Embassy in New Delhi adds two points:
- The e-Visa website does not check whether your supporting document is valid or genuine. Airlines and Turkish immigration do.
- If your supporting document does not meet the criteria, airlines will not let you board.
Carry the original supporting visa or permit, plus your return ticket, hotel booking and proof of funds. Officers may ask to see them. A visa never guarantees entry: the e-Visa FAQ says border officials can refuse entry without giving a reason.
What “valid” means for your US, UK or Schengen visa
The official e-Visa FAQ and the Embassy in New Delhi agree on the basics:
- Valid by date on the day you enter Türkiye. Your entry date must fall within the validity of your supporting visa or permit.
- Used or unused both count. A single-entry Schengen visa you have already used is accepted, as long as it is still in date when you arrive in Türkiye.
- Visa in an old passport? The Embassy in New Delhi says this is accepted if the visa is still valid. Apply for the e-Visa on your current passport, and carry the old passport too, to show Turkish immigration.
- E-visas from other countries do not count, says the e-Visa FAQ.
One warning from the application form. The e-Visa site also contains a stricter error message. It says your supporting document must stay valid throughout the validity period of your e-Visa, and cover your stay plus 3 months from your arrival date. For an Indian ordinary passport, the system showed an e-Visa validity of 180 days, not one month. So the form may expect your supporting visa or permit to be valid well beyond 3 months, possibly for most of the 180 days. We could not see without registering exactly how the form applies this to Indian applicants. If your supporting visa or permit expires within about 6 months of your arrival, ask the e-Visa support desk (Contact page on evisa.gov.tr) before you book anything.
Passport validity
The MFA advises a passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. Follow that advice. The MFA also explains the legal minimum as 60 days beyond your permitted stay, but do not rely on that figure for the e-Visa. The e-Visa system applies its own, stricter check. When we tested an arrival on 7 October 2026, it required a passport valid until 6 February 2027, about 4 months after arrival. The site’s entry rules also say your passport must be valid for at least 60 days beyond the expiry of the visa itself, not just your stay.
How to apply on the official e-Visa site
Use evisa.gov.tr only, and type the address yourself. The Embassy in New Delhi warns that other websites offering Turkish e-visas are unofficial. It says they apply on the official site for you and charge more than twice the official fee. It also says no company is delegated by the Turkish missions in India to issue or arrange e-visas.
The official site says its e-Visa service is provided by DTV for the Turkish authorities. You may briefly land on another page first. Whatever page you land on, apply and pay only on evisa.gov.tr.
Have these ready before you start:
- A clear, passport-style photo of your face (centred, shoulders to top of head). The site asks for a biometric profile photo and limits uploads to 2MB.
- A scan or photo of your supporting US, UK, Irish or Schengen visa or residence permit, to upload.
- Your mother’s name, your father’s name and your place of birth. The form asks for them.
- Check eligibility. Choose E-Visa, India and Ordinary Passport.
- Register and create a profile. The site’s steps are: create a profile, upload files, make the payment, download the e-Visa.
- Enter your details exactly as in your passport. If anything does not match, the e-Visa is invalid and you must apply again. The fee is not refunded.
- Add your supporting document. The form asks for the type (visa or residence permit), the country, the document number and the expiry date, and has a field to upload the document.
- Confirm the conditions listed above.
- Pay by card. The FAQ names Mastercard, Visa or UnionPay credit or debit cards with 3D Secure and international payments switched on. The card need not be in your name. The site also shows logos for other payment methods, so check the options at checkout.
- Download your e-Visa. A link is shown at the end and sent by email. The FAQ advises keeping a copy on your phone or on paper.
Good to know from the official FAQ (checked 7 October 2026):
- Apply at least 48 hours before departure.
- You can enter on any date within the e-Visa’s validity. You cannot change the dates: if your plans change, you need a new e-Visa.
- Each traveller needs their own e-Visa. A family application can cover 2 to 10 people, who must all meet the conditions.
- You are only charged if the e-Visa is approved. Unused e-Visas are not refunded.
- If the system says it cannot process your application, apply at a Turkish embassy or consulate instead.
- Indian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Türkiye.
The fee
The official site shows the full price, in US dollars, before you pay. When we checked on 7 October 2026, the total for an ordinary Indian passport was about US$50.50: a US$31 visa price, a US$6 service fee, a US$1.50 fee and a US$12 travel insurance fee. The FAQ says the service fee covers the cost of international operations. Fees change, so check evisa.gov.tr. The Embassy in New Delhi’s e-Visa page (dated 1 March 2024) says an e-Visa costs at least US$85 less than a sticker visa.
If you do not qualify: the sticker visa from India
Without a valid US, UK, Irish or Schengen visa or permit, you need a sticker visa. The e-Visa FAQ says sticker visa applications go through the Pre-Application System of Turkish Sticker Visa. The Embassy in New Delhi’s website links to it as its visa pre-application for foreigners.
The embassy’s pages say it does not accept sticker visa applications directly. You submit and collect through the visa application centre (VAC) for your mission’s area. Which mission covers you depends on where you live. The embassy’s jurisdiction page (dated 24 September 2019) lists:
| Turkish mission | States and territories (from the embassy’s list) |
|---|---|
| Embassy, New Delhi | Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and the north-eastern states (also Nepal and Bhutan) |
| Consulate General, Mumbai | Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu |
| Consulate General, Hyderabad | Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha |
This list dates from 2019 and does not mention Ladakh. If you live in Ladakh, or are unsure which mission covers you, check with the mission or the visa centre.
Which visa centre is current? The embassy pages we could open in October 2026 still name Gateway as the visa centre, but they are old. Before you book an appointment, check the current visa centre on the embassy or consulate website, or ask the mission.
The embassy’s own page on sticker visa documents was also offline. Get the current document checklist from the visa centre when you book. As general advice, do not pay for non-refundable flights or hotels before your visa is issued.
Indians living abroad
The e-Visa rule follows your passport, not where you live. Where you live decides where you apply for a sticker visa. Our guide to passport vs residence visa rules explains this in more detail.
Indians living in the UAE
A UAE residence permit is not a supporting document for the Türkiye e-Visa. The MFA’s list covers only the Schengen countries, the USA, the UK and Ireland. So an Indian in Dubai or Abu Dhabi with only a UAE residence visa needs a sticker visa.
- Apply through the Turkish Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate General in Dubai, following their current process. A 2020 notice from the Consulate General in Dubai said applications go in person to VFS Global centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and the missions do not accept them directly. Check that this is still current before you book.
- If you also hold a valid US, UK, Irish or Schengen visa or permit, you can use the e-Visa like any other Indian passport holder.
The same logic applies in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the other Gulf states: a Gulf residence permit alone does not open the e-Visa.
Indians living in the UK
A valid UK residence permit is an accepted supporting document. But the UK has replaced most physical immigration documents with eVisas: a digital record of your status. The UK government says you can travel with your eVisa once your passport details are linked to it.
The Türkiye e-Visa system says e-visas of other countries are not accepted as supporting documents. It does not say how it treats UK digital status. We could not find official Turkish guidance on this. If your UK status is only digital, ask the e-Visa support desk or a Turkish mission before you book, and carry any valid physical UK visa or permit you have.
Transiting through Istanbul
- Staying airside: the e-Visa FAQ says you do not need a visa if you do not leave the international transit area.
- Flying on to Latin America: the Embassy in New Delhi announced in April 2024 that Indian passport holders flying to Mexico, Panama, Colombia or Venezuela via Istanbul Airport need an Electronic Airport Transit Visa (e-ATV). It said the e-ATV is free on evisa.gov.tr. Carry a printout, because airlines check it at departure.
Common mistakes and scams
- Applying on a look-alike “Turkey visa” website that charges extra
- Paying an agent who promises to “arrange” your e-Visa. The embassy says no company is delegated to do this in India
- Using a UAE or other Gulf residence permit as the supporting document
- Using another country’s e-visa as the supporting document
- A supporting visa or permit that expires before you enter Türkiye
- Names or passport numbers that do not match your passport
- Applying on a new passport without carrying the old passport that holds your supporting visa
- Forgetting the return ticket, hotel booking and proof of US$50 a day
- Overstaying. The FAQ says this can lead to fines, deportation or a ban
Planning the trip
- Flights: check whether you land at Istanbul Airport (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), and compare total cost, including baggage. Compare flights to Istanbul.
- Hotels: you need a hotel reservation for the e-Visa. Choose free cancellation where you can. Find hotels in Türkiye.
- Data: a travel eSIM gives you maps and ride apps from landing. Your phone must be unlocked and eSIM-ready. Compare eSIM plans.
- Insurance: read what any insurance included in the e-Visa fee actually covers before you rely on it. Compare travel insurance.

- Old passport packed if your supporting visa is in it
- Applied on evisa.gov.tr at least 48 hours before departure

FAQ
Can Indians get a Turkey e-Visa with a US visa?
Yes. The MFA says Indian ordinary passport holders with a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, the USA, the UK or Ireland can get a single-entry e-Visa at evisa.gov.tr, if they meet the other conditions.
Does my US, UK or Schengen visa need to be unused?
No. The e-Visa FAQ says used or unused visas are accepted, as long as they are still valid on the date you enter Türkiye. But the application form also says your supporting visa should stay valid for the e-Visa’s validity period and for 3 months after arrival. If your visa expires within about 6 months of your arrival, check with the e-Visa support desk before you book.
Can I use a visa in my old passport?
The Embassy in New Delhi says yes, if the visa is still valid on your entry date. Apply on your current passport and carry the old one to show Turkish immigration.
How long can I stay in Türkiye on the e-Visa?
Up to 30 days on a single entry. When we checked, the e-Visa system showed the e-Visa as valid for 180 days from your arrival date, with a total stay of no more than 30 days. The MFA page calls it a one-month e-Visa. For a longer stay or another purpose, apply for a sticker visa.
Can Indians living in Dubai get the Turkey e-Visa?
Only if they also hold a valid US, UK, Ireland or Schengen visa or residence permit. A UAE residence visa alone does not qualify, so apply for a sticker visa through the Turkish mission in the UAE.
Do Indians get a visa on arrival in Türkiye?
No. The e-Visa FAQ lists India among the countries whose citizens can get an e-Visa but are not eligible for a visa on arrival.
Can Voyfaro apply for my Türkiye e-Visa?
No. Voyfaro does not apply for, issue or guarantee visas. Apply yourself on evisa.gov.tr, or through the Turkish mission for a sticker visa.
