Kuala Lumpur’s towers and food streets, Langkawi’s beaches and Penang’s old town make Malaysia a favourite family holiday from Pakistan. The Malaysia eVisa for Pakistani passport holders is the usual way in. You apply online, on the Malaysian Immigration Department’s own portal, before you fly.
This guide explains the Malaysia visa for Pakistani travellers: documents, fees, processing time and the arrival card. It also covers Pakistanis living in the UAE or Saudi Arabia. Voyfaro does not issue visas or apply for them. We checked the official pages in the Sources list in October 2026. Rules change, so confirm there before you pay.
Malaysia eVisa for Pakistani passport holders: quick answer
- Do Pakistanis need a visa? Yes. Pakistan is on the Immigration Department of Malaysia’s list of countries that must apply for a visa.
- Where to apply: online at malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my. The portal says a Single Entry Visa is mandatory for citizens of 31 listed countries, including Pakistan, for social visits such as tourism.
- Apply from anywhere: the portal accepts applications from around the world, except from Malaysia, Israel and North Korea. Outside Pakistan, you need proof that you live or stay in that country.
- Validity and stay: a Single Entry Visa allows one journey within 6 months of issue. The portal mentions stays of up to 30 days. Your eVISA shows what was granted.
- Fee: RM 20.00 visa fee for Pakistan, plus an RM 105.00 processing charge and a small payment charge. Non-refundable.
- Processing: 2 to 7 working days (portal) or 2 to 10 working days (Islamabad High Commission). Apply at least 14 days before travel.
- Before you land: submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) within 3 days before arrival.
How the Malaysia eVISA works
The official portal vs look-alike sites
The official site is malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my. The Immigration Department and the Malaysian missions in Islamabad, Dubai and Abu Dhabi all point to it. Type the address yourself instead of clicking an ad.
The portal’s terms say the Immigration Department is not responsible for problems caused by unofficial or third-party websites. For help, use the Live Chat Support button on the portal, which runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Which eVISA to choose
For a holiday or family visit, choose the social visit eVISA. The portal calls it Visa Without Reference (VTR). Visa With Reference (VDR) is for people who already hold an approval letter, for example to study or work.
Validity and length of stay
The portal says a Single Entry Visa allows one journey to Malaysia within 6 months of issue. Its eligibility page says visa holders may stay up to 30 days, and its FAQ says the stay depends on nationality. The Malaysian mission decides the final validity, length of stay and number of entries, so check your eVISA when it arrives.
If your travel date moves but stays within 6 months of issue, the FAQ says you do not need a new eVISA. Any active Malaysian visa you already hold is cancelled once a new eVISA is approved. If the new application is rejected, the old visa stays valid.
Documents Pakistani applicants are usually asked for
Passport, photo and passport pages
- Passport biodata page, valid for more than 6 months from your travel date. The FAQ also asks for at least 3 blank pages.
- Studio photo: plain white background, taken within the last 6 months, full face from chin to crown, 35 mm by 50 mm. The portal says no headgear, and no scans or selfies. If you wear a headscarf for religious reasons, ask Live Chat Support what is allowed before you upload.
- Birth certificate for every applicant under 18. The portal says this is compulsory.
Blurry or unreadable uploads may lead to rejection, or to refusal of entry at the airport.
Return ticket and hotel booking
The portal asks for a confirmed return ticket (if applicable) and proof of paid accommodation, so a pay-at-hotel reservation may not be enough. Its FAQ adds:
- Several bookings? Merge them into one file.
- Staying with family or friends? Write a short cover letter to the Immigration Officer with your details and the address. Add your host’s name, identity card number and phone number. Upload it under Proof of Paid Accommodation / Hotel Booking.
As general guidance, avoid “dummy tickets” sold only for visa files. Choose real bookings with clear change or cancellation terms.
Bank statement and proof of funds
For social visits, the portal’s FAQ says you must show you can support yourself. Proof can be cash, a debit or credit card, traveller’s cheques or e-money recognised by Malaysia’s central bank. It should be backed by bank statements for the last 3 months.
The pages we checked do not set a minimum balance. The Dubai consulate also lists “sufficient financial provisions” for your stay as an entry condition. As general guidance, use statements in your own name and be ready to explain large recent deposits.
Extra documents for UAE and Saudi residents
The portal’s FAQ says you can apply from another country if you show proof that you live or stay there. For most Gulf residents, that means a UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, or a Saudi iqama. The portal also lists your “current residing country pass / visa” among documents to show at entry.
The Dubai consulate’s in-person checklist, for nationalities that cannot use the eVISA, also asks for a salary certificate and a sponsor NOC. Pakistanis apply online instead. As general guidance, carry copies in case an officer asks about your job.
Step-by-step application on the official portal
- Register at malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my, then log in with the temporary password emailed to you and change it. No email? Check spam, or try a Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo address.
- Add your family if needed. One account can hold applications for up to 5 people at a time.
- Choose the social visit eVISA (VTR), single entry.
- Enter your details exactly as in your passport. No surname? The FAQ says you may leave Surname blank and put your full name under Given Name.
- Upload your photo, passport page, ticket, accommodation proof and other documents.
- Pay online. The portal lists credit card and the Alipay and WeChat Pay e-wallets. Offline payment is not accepted. If the status still says “New Application” after paying, do not pay again; contact Live Chat Support.
- Track your status. If documents or an interview are requested, respond quickly. The portal rejects applications automatically after 5 days without a response.
- Download your eVISA. A printout or the digital eVISA is accepted at entry. Carry a printed copy as a backup.
Malaysia eVisa fee and processing time for Pakistanis
| Item | What the official pages say |
|---|---|
| Visa fee for Pakistan | RM 20.00 (Immigration Department) |
| Processing charge | RM 105.00 (portal) |
| Payment charge | 0.8% by card, 1.7% by Alipay or WeChat Pay (portal) |
| Refunds | None, whatever the outcome |
| Processing time | 2 to 7 working days (portal); 2 to 10 working days (Islamabad High Commission) |
| When to apply | At least 14 days before travel (portal) |
Weekends and holidays do not count, and the clock restarts when you upload requested documents. If your own mistake means the eVISA must be reissued, you apply and pay again.
Before you fly: Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)
The Immigration Department says all foreign citizens travelling to Malaysia must complete the MDAC, with a few exceptions such as Singapore citizens.
- When: within 3 days before you arrive
- Where: imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main
- On arrival: show your MDAC registration at the immigration counter
- Cost: we saw no fee on the official site, so avoid sites that charge to “process” it
The MDAC is not a visa. The portal also says an eVISA does not guarantee entry; the border officer decides. Keep your passport, eVISA, return ticket, hotel proof, proof of funds and any Gulf residence visa in your hand luggage.
Common reasons eVISA applications get delayed or refused
General guidance, based on the portal’s rules:
- Blurry uploads, selfies, or the wrong photo size or background
- A name that does not match the passport (the FAQ says a mismatched eVISA is invalid)
- Less than 6 months’ passport validity
- Unpaid hotels, or ticket and hotel dates that do not match
- Staying with family but no cover letter
- No birth certificate for a child
- Applying from the Gulf without proof of residence
- Missing the 5-day deadline for requested documents
- Applying less than 14 days before your flight
Applying from the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Qatar
Pakistanis in the Gulf use the same portal and passport route.
| Where you are | What the official pages say |
|---|---|
| Pakistan | Islamabad High Commission: apply online; 2 to 10 working days. |
| UAE | Dubai consulate: Pakistan is eVISA-eligible; eVISAs are processed by the Immigration Department, not the consulate. |
| Saudi Arabia | Portal: apply with proof that you live there. Riyadh’s older in-person page (January 2022) asks for iqama and exit/re-entry copies. |
| Qatar | The Doha embassy’s visa page covers Qatari citizens only. Follow the portal and ask Live Chat Support. |
As general guidance, keep your residence permit, and a Saudi exit/re-entry visa, valid until after you return.
Avoid unofficial visa websites and WhatsApp agents
Pay only on malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my. The portal’s FAQ calls it the only official eVISA website. It says applications made on third-party sites cannot be verified, and advises applicants to apply themselves.
Be careful with WhatsApp “agents” who promise a guaranteed visa: the portal says missions can refuse an application without giving a reason. Do not send passport scans to people you cannot verify.
